  • ➢ From 2004 to 2019, Roosevelt Nichols was the visionary and spearheaded the annual Lancaster Martin Luther King Jr, Celebration activities. He partnered with various individuals, businesses, church groups, and civic organizations within the city of Lancaster and the surrounding Dallas-Fort Worth area to ensure the essence of Dr. King's message was reinforced across the generations. The parade became one of the largest celebrations in the area and featured a myriad of participants including car clubs, trail riding horse clubs, motorcycle clubs, bands, schools, drill teams, dance, and cheer groups, elected officials and many others. It also birthed opportunities for student academic scholarships, became an outlet for youth performers, and a platform for cultural enlightenment. Under Nichols' stewardship, a large number of spectators were drawn to the city and actively contributed to the local economy by shopping at retail and grocery stores, fuel stations, hotels, and dining at restaurants within the City of Lancaster during the event. It has been estimated that over $400,000 in economic impact to the City of Lancaster, attributed from the Martin Luther King Jr, Celebration activities over the last 15 years.
