Historical Overview The first settlement made in the Lancaster community was in September 1844 by Roderick Rawlins. Mr. Rawlins and other members of his party had secured "head rights" from the Republic of Texas.
When the first African American settled in Lancaster are was brought to Lancaster it is still being research. Lancaster is the largest African American majority city in the state of Texas.
